Are you not satisfied with your face, arms or stomach? Are you having trouble achieving the results you are looking for despite eating healthy and remaining dedicated to your exercise regimen? Have you considered plastic surgery but are concerned about downtime and scarring? Brevard County’s top plastic surgeon, Dr. Mauricio Castellon, may have an answer for you!

Radiofrequency Assisted Liposuction (RFAL) is a new, minimally invasive procedure that uses thermal energy to simultaneously melt fat and tighten skin in a single treatment. The treatment is safe and controlled. Castellon Plastic Surgery Center is the first to bring this innovative technology to the Space Coast using RFAL by InMode. InMode offers FaceTite and BodyTite contouring solutions, which allows patients to receive RFAL treatment on their faces and other trouble areas of the body. These procedures have become a popular option for many patients, as they are able to achieve dramatic aesthetic results without the downtime associated with plastic surgery.

How is RFAL done?

Dr. Castellon performs the RFAL procedure in the office under local anesthesia. A small incision is made in the area to be treated and a small thermal probe is inserted under the surface of the skin where the fat is aspirated out with a small cannula. Radiofrequency waves are guided upwards through the fatty tissue and skin to another external electrode, which serves to ensure the treatment area doesn’t get too hot. As the radiofrequency waves liquefy the fat, it is then immediately suctioned out of the body with another small cannula. The radiofrequency waves also stimulate the production of collagen beneath the skin, making the treated area appear firmer and more toned.

What areas of the body can be treated with RFAL?

RFAL can be used on multiple areas of the face and body, including chin, jowls, cheeks, neck, arms, chest, breasts, abdomen, flanks, hips, bra rolls, back, buttocks, inner and outer thighs, and knees.

Who is a viable candidate for RFAL?

Ideal candidates for RFAL are those who are in overall good health, but have stubborn areas of localized fat that are resistant to diet and exercise. RFAL is not a substitute to diet and exercise regimens, and is not weight loss surgery. In addition, candidates with mildly loose skin in the face, neck, and trunk will see an improvement with RFAL with only a single treatment.

How is the scarring and how long is the recovery period?

One of the benefits of RFAL is that it’s minimally invasive, requiring only very small incisions with no scarring. It is done under local anesthesia, and patients can drive home shortly after the procedure. The patient also experiences less bruising, pain, and/or discomfort during the recovery period. Compression garments are not typically used, and most people can resume normal activity within a few days.

When do you see results?

Initial results from RFAL can be seen immediately, with best results noticeable after three months and continuing up to six months. The greatest appeal of RFAL is its ability to address patient concerns that were until recently, considered to only be correctable with traditional plastic surgery techniques with additional scarring. RFAL is the innovative, minimally invasive technology that removes fat in stubborn areas, while simultaneously tightening the overlying skin in a single treatment. We are delighted to offer this new, state-of-the-art technology to our patients, and are proud to be the first and only provider of RFAL in Brevard County.
