What’s causing the rise? Some say it’s to look good and stay competitive in the job market. For others, it may be to just feel better about themselves.

Technology advances provide a multitude of nonsurgical solutions for our most requested cosmetic procedures, and as a result more men are electing to explore this new world of aesthetics. Here we highlight four top trending cosmetic procedures.

Eyelid surgery for pesky droopy lids

Are you tired of people saying you look tired—even when you got a full night’s sleep? Puffy or swollen eyes can be caused by water retention, stress, allergies, hay fever, hormonal changes, alcohol consumption and a high sodium intake. Blepharoplasty is an eyelid surgery that helps correct drooping upper eyelids and puffy bags below the eyes by removing excess fat, skin, and muscle resulting in a more alert appearance. Many patients who have the surgery also experience better vision and fewer episodes of tired eyes because the excess tissue is no longer fatiguing the eyes.

In most cases, blepharoplasty surgery takes only about one hour. Some bruising, swelling, and redness is common after surgery with full results seen after two months.

Eyelid lift surgery does not stop the aging process, but you will enjoy the results of your blepharoplasty for many years after the surgery.

Stubborn fat meets its match with body contouring

Men who struggle with stubborn fat deposits anywhere on the body can keep a chiseled physique at bay with body contouring. At Castellon Plastic Surgery Center, we find the two most popular procedures we offer are CoolSculpting® and BodyTite™ both of which are done in the Melbourne, Florida office and do not require surgery.

CoolSculpting literally freezes your unwanted fat cells by safely delivering precisely controlled cooling to gently and effectively target the fat cells underneath the skin. Treated fat cells are crystalized (frozen), then die. Over time, your body naturally processes the fat and eliminates these dead cells, leaving a more sculpted you. Coolsculpting technology was developed by Harvard scientists and is clinically proven to target and destroy fat cells without harming your skin.

Coolsculpting has become very popular with both men and women because it requires very minimal downtime, does not involve incisions, give you quick results, and offers permanent fat reduction when you follow a healthy lifestyle. CoolSculpting® treatments will provide excellent results for men who are in good health, close to their ideal weight and follow a healthy, active lifestyle.

BodyTite is an FDA-approved device that melts fat and tightens skin simultaneously. This treatment is powered by RFAL (radio-frequency assisted lipolysis), resulting in a reduction of fat while also tightening the skin. With BodyTite, you can achieve results that parallel surgical procedures without the surgery and scarring involved. This treatment can be used almost anywhere on the body where unwanted fat can be found.

BodyTite is conducted through a unique FDA-approved handpiece that deploys radiofrequency energy from both an internal probe and an external electrode. Built-in mechanisms ensure that the appropriate degree of heating occurs without damaging the skin.

Results can be seen immediately with best results noticeable after 6 months continuing up to 12 months. The results can be permanent, but only if you continue to maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle after treatment.

If you are unsure about which procedure is right for you, Brevard County, board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Mauricio Castellon will discuss all your options based on your desired outcomes, length of procedure, and cost in your initial consult.

Injectables are not just for the ladies

In the past 20 years, overall aesthetic procedures for men has risen 325 percent, according to the American Society for Plastic Surgery. That’s not just Botox or Brotox (slang), guys. The ASPS also reported that the trend is up with other injectables as well — 26.6 percent for hyaluronic fillers from 2014 to 2015 alone. Men have discovered that injectables make them look and feel better, and who doesn’t want that?

There’s no exact dosages specific to men at this point, but most professionals agree that male patients may need higher doses than a female patient. Fortunately for men, they age differently than women and may only need a couple of visits per year to maintain their youthful appearance.

So what areas are men opting for? The eyes and jaw line. Dermal fillers, like Restylane or Voluma, are typically the treatment of choice for eliminating eye bags without surgery. Dermal fillers are gels composed of a substance called hyaluronic acid, a substance found naturally in the body that can restore lost volume (or add new volume) to facial soft tissue. These same fillers in combination with Kybella can also be used for plumping up the jaw line. You can expose the jaw line by lifting it up and creating definition by getting rid of the fat underneath it.

There is no magical age to start getting injections, but there may be benefits to starting as early as your late twenties if you really want to delay the aging process without doing it all at once late in life.

Male breast reductions

For men, having enlarged breasts is embarrassing. Many people believe that a man with breasts is unhealthy and less masculine which can lead to anxiety and stress. Gynecomastia is generally caused by estrogen levels that are too high or out of balance with testosterone levels. There is also a small percentage of gynecomastia cases that are caused by medications.

Male breast reduction is an elective surgery to those who suffer from gynecomastia. Dr. Mauricio Castellon, is a top surgeon in Melbourne, Florida and Brevard County who specializes in male breast reduction, Dr. Castellon uses liposuction and other specific techniques to give your chest a masculine appearance.

Depending on the nature of your male breast reduction, the procedure can take one to two hours. The shorter procedures involve liposuction only while longer surgeries involve liposuction and tissue removal. Normal activities will need to be limited for at least one month after surgery. Full recovery can take three to 12 months.

If it will make you feel better about yourself seek treatment.

Castellon Plastic Surgery Center offers a variety of options for male cosmetic procedures, injectables, skincare, and the latest non-invasive liposuction techniques and non-surgical treatments.
