Breast lifts, clinically referred to as a mastopexy, have become increasingly common as women struggle to resist the pull of gravity. While around the holidays, there is a flurry of internet postings for miracle exercise and supplement solutions, sadly an exercise based breast lift is too good to be true. Surgical breast lifts are the only true solution for firmer, younger looking breasts.
People passing on this information are making the mistake of thinking of breasts as being like other parts of the body, which become toned and tight through exercise. The reason breasts don’t tone with exercise is that, unlike those other parts of the body, breasts contain no muscle tissue. Breast tissue is largely made up of fat and glandular tissue. So, unfortunately there are no muscles to tone up.
“But what about my breast pectoral muscles?” Yes, pectoral muscles do exist around and underneath the breast, but a droopy breast has nothing to do with those muscles. When your breast droops, it’s because the skin around your breast is losing its elasticity and stretching instead of snapping back into place. Working your pectoral muscles may help your back and neck, but even with the most ripped pectoral muscles, your breast skin will still be as stretchy as it was before – and you will not achieve the result you desire.
The only way to achieve a true breast lift is through surgery, where the excess skin is removed and repositioned, shifting the areola, nipple and breast upward for a firm, and more rejuvenated appearance. Since stretched skin cannot return to the elasticity it knew before, removing it is the only way to get your breasts to sit higher on your chest.
While it’s tempting to think that you can regain breasts through a simple series of exercises, it is not the case. If you are unhappy with the appearance of your breasts in (or out) of clothing, we welcome you to schedule an appointment with Dr. Castellon to learn about your breast enhancement options. Some patients may also opt to combine a breast lift with a breast augmentation for an even fuller and more aesthetically pleasing shape and size. The process may not be as inexpensive as exercising, but it is the only way to guarantee you will go from beginning to beautiful results.
